A Letter on the Happenings of Aeledd by Fimble Greenhart

To my heart & most stalwart love ♥️ Mallory,

With so much of my time now spent away, I offer a view of what your indulgence of my heroic’ing has seen and how the world is ever changing. This also serves to help me process the dramatics & intrigue that is ever churning.

The Vargoth. True monsters whose threat knocks at the gates of civilization. Since the loss of Valarmore to their sudden assault, we have both learned so much and yet are left with new questions. They were never some unhinged tide of insanity without a Will for we have met their minions, seen them recruit leaders, and heard the Vargoth proto-kingdom make claims under the guise of diplomacy. How each Kingdom across Aeledd responds to the Vargoth frustratingly varies – we have observed infiltrators in our Republic and Melluria, open collaborators among the 'Nobles' in the Vale of Scyllena, and outright treachery. The greatest stroke of evil since Valarmore is the destruction and fall of Eltiel; home of my dear friend Duckie.Their assault pressed ever upon the Five Duchies and earnest heroics have bought time – never for free. The Fox Duchy may be the next to suffer. Yet in the sight of such imminent terrors and the dam breaking, the struggle continues to persuade Kingdoms to openly stand against this invasion and then also contribute materially to the fight. Recently the Convocations, Konnigstrava, Merrigor, and Aluvair are showing their resolve and involvement in the crisis which brings me heart. Aramyr and Caleb Harper have a better view of the ongoing strategy.

Death, The Gate, and the Pact. While I journeyed to Fortune’s Bend originally as the site of the Council of the Farthest Star, this place is home to eldritch history that the heroes here work through like a legendary onion’s layers. We, the Heroes of Fortune’s Bend, reside within the lands of the actual being Death, the Destroyer, The Lady of Moths – the one whose questions & judgment you face before your Final Walk. The gate to her realm, the Void is here – real and not myth. Adamant research has revealed the histories of this place for its multiple recurrences across generations to rise to stand against the perils of, no – to Aeledd. To codify this iteration, the Heroes and Death herself are forging a Pact with foundations drawn from prior incarnations of Fortune’s Bend that previously stood against historical threats. We learned of many prior incarnations of the town and are well on our way to Seal the pact with four carefully selected choices. For sake of brevity, I cannot describe them here for I risk running out of ink. Instead, I leave you with the chilling detail that Death knows my name yet I have never crossed into her realm – and I expect she knows yours. I yet have not had courage to ask her if our children and their children reside peacefully with the Void. For more perspective on these matters I recommend direction queries to Elora or Daimyo Cicero Stargone or Ky.

The Tyrant, the Tarot, and the Barred Commets. Akin a title to a children’s book, no? One “ally” against the Vargoth is their Supreme Majesty the Tyrant. Often titles are parable or metaphor; in this case not. The Tyrant is, was?... a being of concept from the Realm of the Shade who walks in Aeledd and is the truest embodiment of their title. Thus far they have been amiable & supportive and clearly so in our collective stand against the Vargoth including direct military action. Yet I worry about schemes beyond schemes which will punish us once the looming terror is past.Their envoys & allies are welcome and often present in Fortune’s Bend, including Tamara Finley and The Rake. Their alleged machinations include the kidnapping of Major Arcana from the Tarot. Again, personified ideals of each. I have met so far The Hierophant, The High Priestess, and The Hermit and each is as you might daydream them to be. My current theory, albeit incomplete, is that the Tyrant has aligned with a villainous force known as the Eternal Armada to kidnap these Tarot for dire manipulation of this world’s destiny, fate, and freedom. Artanis Mistmoon has been tracking all of this with the Conservatory.

The Witch of the Mulberry Grove. Although not as far reaching a doom as those above, I cannot write about what affects me in the world without offering an update on this foe you know as well as I from years past. The Witch has meddled her way into the affairs of Fortune’s Bend as is her want. This terrible attention has afforded us the opportunity to stand and fight her more directly than in decades, at the cost of a dozen Heroes cursed with Unity. She remains a selfish creature who craves power, to sustain her immortality, and most cruelly to maximize suffering inflicted – physical and spiritual to good folk like each of us.May this confrontation be my last for I dare not leave a foe who has haunted the safety & lives of innocents free to fester unto another generation. The nanny Billamina Gruff… yes the one you’ve met! She can say more on this if you wish to reach out directly.

Mallory – I know this is much and has reached far from the once simple cause that brought me here – to have Aeledd stand against the Vargoth. By being here in Fortune’s Bend upon the precipice of action, so much more in peril in the world becomes known AND within reach to defy. My life as a minor noble in the Republic has seen all the good it might and this place has given my new life a reprise to forge alliances, unearth challenging truths, and act. Please forgive this idealism and endure my heroics here a while longer,

With unbreakable love, signed – Fimble Greenhart your consort.
