Caged Arcanis
What kind of hunter keeps their prey locked away instead of allowing for a fair hunt?
Tuga, apparently. This gather commenced with the reveal that the Vargoth had
captured a number of Arcani and were using them as defensive measures. The town was
able to acquire special feed to assist in befriending the Arcanis who were subsequently
released.
The Arcanis graciously allowed additional conversations through the weekend and
provided some helpful answers to questions of the town. Unfortunately, Tuga also felt
the need to invite herself (a recurring theme). The combined force of the Arcanis and
adventurers successfully repelled her hunters–an auspicious beginning for the new
alliance.
Rescuing Mellorian Sappers
Victory alongside the Arcani aside, the rescue missions of Fortune’s Bend haven’t
always been successful. That doesn’t mean that we stop endeavoring to do better. When
the Howling Gates fell this past spring, the destruction introduced new difficulties in
the fight against the Vargoth. A team of Mellurian sappers had set out to the mountains
with the intent of creating an avalanche to bury the Vargoth at the Gates. While the
plan wasn’t originally successful, the town received word that the charges were active
but had yet to be detonated.
The focus of Saturday night: rescue the Sappers, finish the detonators, and set off the
bombs.
The majority of the town held off the Vargoth while the bombs were rebuilt. The battle
was, simply put, a horrific reminder of the brutal and relentless nature of the Vargoth. Forces on the beach struggled to stand against the ever-growing tide, forcing our people closer and closer to the water’s edge. There was no ability to push back. It took the full combat prowess and mental fortitude of the Purposed to stand against the onslaught while runners hunted for components of the detonators.
When the bombs were finally ready, the town as a whole was able to flee as the Sappers
and the Foxfall archers set off the explosions. Most escaped, leaving only one of the
town (and additional Sappers) to fall in the resulting avalanche that crushed the gates
and the Vargoth army.
Looking Forward
The town has spent the last two years trying to catch up to the assaults of the Vargoth.
It has been a constant act of chasing and trailing and hoping to make amends for the
town’s absence in the last few years.
The final morning of the gather, we set our sights on forward growth for the town and
for ourselves.
First, the town has been strengthening the Pact with Death for the last two years, and
the time has come to make a decision on the next seal. It was decided that the town
would pursue The Unwanted for the next step. Further ramifications of this choice are
expected at this upcoming gather.
The weekend then concluded with fighting; this time, for self-improvement and sport
instead of survival. The new Shadewalkers of the town brought everyone to the
Training Grounds of the Shade. All who have been pursuing new skills and passions
were able to learn and practice. After a weekend of anxiety and fear, it was a good
reminder of the joy of learning.
Mass Casualties in Old Valarmore: A cohort of some thirty individuals accompanied
Millicent Hurst to Old Valarmore to see if her blessing from the Tuneweaver could
protect Purposed from the howling Vargoth. Unfortunately, it still unfolded into great
tragedy with all but two visiting Death’s Gate. The whereabouts of Millicent herself are
still unknown.
Mists and Metal: The town aided in a recovery mission to search for missing Revenant
sent into the Mists of Eltiel. Rescuers slowly crept through the dark in heavy protective
gear while harried by the screams, giggles, howls, and whimpers of various creatures.
Information suggesting the location of bunkered survivors was discovered, as well as a
now-fully-metallic Revenant.
A Rakish Guest: The Rake visited! This is not unexpected: he seems like he favors
going to places where people fawn over him as he walks in. It was, however, still
enjoyable.
Void Excursions: A journey into the Void proved challenging for adventurers seeking
to negotiate with the Moth of Reclamation. While attempts to change some particularly
unsavory alchemical ingredients were successful, the Moth has warned of an impending
cost. The town still considers this a great victory and extends its thanks for Radovich
and Sydriel for their efforts.
A Grave Assassination Attempt: Who said the town is a peaceful place? Not Stavros
Graves! Assassins visited the town seeking to hurt anyone who had been an accomplice
of Millicent Hurst in her attempts to restore her voice.
Even Death May Die: Or, apparently not! A small number of the town travelled to
Merrigor to watch the Keepers of the Curtain hold trial for the necromancer Cyrix. He
was sentenced, executed, and escaped (in that order). The exact manner of resisting this
Death and Sever is unknown and under investigation.
Updates from the L’Dahn: Due to the sensitive nature of this topic, information has
been excluded. Please seek your favorite member of the L’Dahn Lineation to ask for
more clarification on current events!
E-rat-ication: Revelor the Imperfect acquired some of the more curious members of the
town to assist in the hunting of some dire rats for some unique (and poisonous)
components. Whoever tried consuming these, predictably, became ill.
Blessings, Banes, and Boon: Boon made a visit to the town after some fortune tellers
and oracles received visions of Boon and his monkey traversing through Aeledd. People
of Fortune’s Bend expressed interest in helping him deal with the monkey so that Boon
can continue to support others. The town also nearly unanimously agrees that the
monkey is deeply unsettling.
Commanders’ Meeting: In interest of helping to prevent such difficult fights as the
battle on the beach, members of the town have decided to organize recurring
commanders’ meetings for those interested in leading battles. Anyone interested
(including those with and without prior experience) are welcome.
The Trouble with Tuga: Perhaps unsurprisingly, the townspeople of Fortune’s Bend are
being hunted by the Hunter-Turned-Vargoth. While this has been suspected due to her
constant appearances, this was confirmed with the discovery of several lists detailing
each member of Fortune’s Bend from T’Barris and their presumed weaknesses.
Konnigstrava Outings: A few expeditions were made into Konnigstrava: one to harvest
mushrooms and one to deliver a plague cure. This second was beset by a number of
werewolves - apparently, Plagued Undead aren’t the only trouble travellers should
expect. Slate is currently looking for a way to get some interested townspeople official
papers to aid in future missions.
