The Fall of Eltiel
While this newspaper prefers a somewhat-linear chronicle of events, it would be an
immense oversight not to address the tragedy that has befallen Aeledd. Eltiel has fallen,
and words do not describe the pain and grief felt across the world.
The Midsummer Masque
After months of eager waiting and anticipation, the Masque was finally upon us. As is
typical for the events attended by this town, a series of unexpected events made the
gathering one to remember.
The Lord Hector had been unmasked, and it was necessary that the town step in and
select a new representative for an Elite Courtier in the Vale of Scyllina. Through
interactions with the games, challenges, and offerings of the event, townspeople earned
renown, which would be used to vote on the chosen candidate at the end of the event.
With that, the town was set free to mingle and get to know the five options: Obsidian,
Pallor, Aerie, Gildur, and Chromatic.
Unfortunately, the grave murder of Chromatic early in the night put a damper on
things, and the town took a brief intercession to determine which other candidate had
committed the crime. It was determined that Gildur had murdered him, which resulted
in his timely execution.
Out of the three candidates left, the town came together to vote for Obsidian in the
hopes that they would be an ally against the Vargoth.
The Face of Nightmares
The town was summoned to aid in the defeat of the Night Watchman, a being of fear
from the Shade that was terrorizing a town. Groups of combatants confronted
individual fears, including Terror, Psychological Horror, Fear of Being Alone, and Fear
of Failure. Candles, acquired earlier in the evening, offered the protection of the light
as each was confronted.
As each fear was defeated, the combatants located art supplies to be delivered to the
noncombatants in the town, who were tasked with creating art that would defeat the
onslaught of the Night Watchman and his allies.
Perhaps the town is becoming acclimated to fighting through fear, because the evening
ended in a rousing success for Fortune’s Bend!
A Stroll Through the Shade
After a dark weekend, it was a delight to assist some of the town in their pursuit of
learning Shadewalking, led by Kasjan Stanislaw. The training required the visitation of
numerous different locations in the Shade: the Killing Fields, the Black City, the
Laboratory, the Slumbering Shoals, and the Faraway Isles. The rest of the town assisted
in combat defense or additional support while the Shadewalkers-in-training learned
from each location.
Shadewalker training is ongoing.
Assassins in Merrigor:
Ongoing efforts to uncover an assassination plot have apparently led these foes to take
additional measures to conceal their actions. Nonetheless, the town has discovered the
date of the planned attack as well as the target.
Ants of Chaos:
Late in the evening, a small group dove into a liminal space filled with ants to collect
precious resources. The chaos of the space forced local heroes to trade abilities in
pursuit of slaughtering these Formicidae. It is unclear if these were particularly large
ants, or if participants became smaller than usual.
Linking of the Lines:
Congratulations are in order for Dae, who has successfully completed her Linking of
the Lines ritual and is on the path to becoming an Advocate!
The Revel:
The most joyous of the Convocations came to Fortune’s Bend to spread merriment and
small games.
Wolves Abound:
An excursion to Konnigstrava to deal with some problematic wolves almost became
fatal. Fortunately, adventurers were rescued by none other than the hero of
Konnigstrava himself, Sir Ardent Fisher of the House Fisher. The town is engaging in
ongoing efforts to deal with the...contagious nature of the wolves’ curse.
Locating Valcroftium:
Trent identified a mine in Melluria with more Valcroftium to be used in the
identification of Vargoth. After solving several plant riddles and defeating plant
monsters, the town escaped with their haul.
Myos Blockade:
A blockade has been set up in Myos by former king Michael Zephyr with the apparent
goal of forcing current king Arion Galanis into negotiations.
Rogue Necromancer:
Merrigor requested aid from the town in order to hunt a rogue necromancer that had
fled its borders. After some minor deaths (from which all impacted have recovered), the
villain was secured and delivered back to the authority of the Keepers of the Curtain.
Candle Theft:
After whispers had been heard from several spirits about candles in the dark, the town
discovered the opportunity to steal some of these from a very protective banshee.
Twelve candles were located and used later in the gather (see Recent Events).
We Pick Things Up and Put Them Down:
Early in the morning of the final day of the gather, the town assisted Sydney in her
move from Eltiel after its recent tragedy.
Trial of Blood:
The town’s favorite (and only) blood magic aficionado underwent a trial posed by Blood
itself. Results were, apparently, mixed, though Val seems as determined as ever.
New Coven Established:
As described by founder Billamina, the Broken Cauldron Coven is open to anyone
looking for a safe place to help others heal, overcome, and grow; likes book club vibes;
and is into over the top ritual magic. Those interested in joining should bring an
offering that embodies oneself that can be incorporated into a greater whole to
represent the coven.
